IASTM Bodywork: What is it?

If you’re dealing with muscle tension, soreness, or chronic pain, IASTM or Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization techniques, such as Gua Sha bodywork and the Graston Technique, might be the relief you’re looking for. Both IASTM Bodywork Modalities target muscle and soft tissue issues, helping you feel better, faster. At Thrive, we utilize a combination of these modalities with deep tissue manipulation to provide an even more efficient experience.

Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese healing practice that involves scraping a smooth tool across your skin to release tension, improve circulation, and reduce pain. It’s known for its ability to boost blood flow and oxygenate tissues, soothe tight muscles and release knots, improve flexibility and range of motion and support lymphatic detox and reduce swelling. It’s a great way to relax, recover, and unlock tight areas of your body.

The Graston Technique uses specialized stainless-steel tools to gently “scrape” over the skin, breaking down scar tissue and improving mobility. It’s especially effective for treating soft tissue injuries like tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, reducing scar tissue and improving flexibility and mobility and speeding up recovery from muscle strains or injuries.

Both Gua Sha and the Graston Technique are excellent for relieving pain and helping your body heal more efficiently. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or preventing them, or need to release some built-up tension, these techniques will help you heal and move better.
